Vipassana, meaning “to see things as they truly are,” is one of India’s oldest meditation practices. Rediscovered by Gotama Buddha over 2,500 years ago, it was taught as a universal remedy for the suffering of all beings—essentially, an Art of Living. This non-sectarian technique seeks to completely eliminate mental impurities, leading to profound happiness and ultimate liberation.
Vipassana facilitates self-transformation through self-observation, highlighting the deep connection between mind and body. By focusing on the physical sensations that shape our bodily experiences, one can directly perceive how they influence the mind. This journey of observation and exploration addresses the fundamental link between mind and body, helping to dissolve mental impurities and cultivate a balanced mind filled with love and compassion.
As one engages with this practice, the underlying principles governing thoughts, feelings, judgments, and sensations become clearer. Through direct experience, individuals gain insight into their patterns of growth or regression, as well as the causes of suffering and the paths to liberation from it. Life is then marked by heightened awareness, clarity, self-control, and peace. Somatic Vipassana at Integrative Yoga Center focuses on releasing unresolved trauma that is stored in the body through specific guided meditation techniques.
